In the era of industrialisation, water created new in North Savonia when bog iron ore was extracted from local lakes and iron refined efficiently from it. In addition to iron works, there were several mills working on hydropower in the area. Today Iisalmi and its surroundings are important localities for milk production and brewery products.
Along the way we will see built environment of culturohistorical importance, such as thepreserved buildings of the Jyrkkäkoski iron works. Beer has been brewed in Iisalmi already since 1878. Explore the OLVI Foundation's Brewery Museum right next to the Olvi brewery.
Kiuruvesi is one of Finland's most important localities of milk production. Here you can explore the topic in more detail at the Maidon tie (Milk's Way) exhibition. You can spend amoment listening to the murmur of the water by the ruins of the Isokoski mill whichoperated in Kiuruvesi as well.
